Reduce the childhood obesity prevalence rate

In December, 2014, Jump IN’s Leadership Council adopted a 10-year goal to reduce the obesity prevalence rate from a projected 53% to 38% by 2025.

To set this initial goal for the initiative, we convened a data committee led by Dr. Virginia Caine that included representatives from Marion County Health Department, Indiana State Department of Health, Fairbanks School of Public Health, Indiana Health Information Exchange, and Jump IN.

This group considered the data points that were available locally; looked at the experience of several other communities who have implemented one or more intervention strategies aimed at reducing the childhood obesity rate in those communities; and made certain assumptions about the effectiveness of those interventions.

These data and assumptions will be reviewed periodically based on the availability of additional data from reliable resources.
